A few sanskrit slokas

It is appraisal time in the company where I work. And the company's internal blogs are full of posts about the appraisal process. One of the blog post, started with the sloka below. I couldnt but help laughing. Our sanskrit slokas seem to have a say about everything :)

Amantram aksharam nasti,Nasti mulam na aushadham;
Ayogyah purusho nasti,Yojakah tatra durlabhah

There is no letter in the scriipt that is not a mantra, a chanting, a principle;what we need is a Pandit, a scholar to put the letters to form in to meaningful word. There is no root / plant without medicinal value; what we need is a doctor to diagnose it.

There is none in this world who is ineligible, inefficient, ineffective;what we need is a Yojaka( MANAGER) who manifests it.Its very difficult to get correct Yojaka- We therefore approach the young minds with firm belief within that they are ayogyah nasti.

Below are a few more slokas that made me smile.

The duty of service is most difficult to be understood; it is beyond the understanding of even sages; (for a servant is called), is called dumb if he is silent! (if he is) ready with answer, he is talkative or garrulous; if he stands near, he is impident; and if he keeps at a distance, he is timid; if he bears patiently, he is a coward; if he can not brook (harsh words, insults), he is generally considered unmannerly.

My temples are grey. My cheeks are without the rows of teeth within. My body is wrinkled. This doesn't bother me much. But when those doe-eyed young women call me Taat (a father figure/grandfather), it hits me worse than a lightning.

You cannot trade or buy back even a second of time when it has run out, with all the jewels in the world. So, to simply waste time when you have it is the biggest mistake of all.

Veena, nice collection. The last one, ah, would reproach me every day. BTW, in the last shloka, in the hindi version, you have an extra 'n' - "ratnairna na" - if you break the sandhi of the first word, it is is "ratnaihi na" so it already has the 'na' in it. Sorry, my mom's training interferes :)
