Hobbes: What’s misunderstood about you?
Calvin: Nobody thinks I’m a genius.

I forgot to post a comment for this entry but I wanted to tell you that this song is beautiful. I heard it for the first time and enjoyed it a lot.
Shruti.. thanks . Do get a DVD for 'The Blue Umbrella' and watch it with Shobha. My friend was telling me it is a really good movie.
Dear Veena, Vishal is one of my favourite composers in the recent times. Also he is, arguably, the only one to have composed for children where he used children's voices for them, not like Laxmikant-Pyarelal or Kalyanji-Anandji who employed Lata Mangeshkar's voice for a 10-year old!
In this song--'Chhatri ka udan khatola'--we have Gulzar and Vishal Bhardwaj--what a combination! Vishal is a film director, producer, music composer, as well as a singer...whoa! After scoring music for 'Jungle Book' (Remember 'Jungle jungle baat chali hai pata chala hai, chaddi pahan ke phool khila hai, phool khila hai') and Guchchhe, he moved on to composing for films. He received R.D. Burman award for his score in 'Maachis'.
In an age when children's films were supposed to be a losing proposition, he directed 'Makdee' and also composed beautiful music for it. I've got the cassette, Veena, if you're interested. (Vaise youtube zindabad!)He used some very talented children's voices.
He then roped in Tabu and Irrfan, two of the greatest actors of our times, to act in 'Maqbool', based on Shakespeare's 'Macbeth' and also did the music, which haunts music lovers till today.
He turned to children's films once again and gave us a gem in the form of 'The Blue Umbrella'. By now, we knew he would always do his own music.
Once again, it was Shakespeare calling. He adapted 'Othello' to a rustic story set in the rural Uttar Pradesh and thus was born 'Omkara'. It's interesting to see how he always teamed up with Gulzar and came out with winning scores all the time.
He also composed music for 'Satya'('Sapne mein milti hai'), 'Chachi 420', 'Nishabd'('Rozana' in Amitabh Bachchan's voice), 'U, Me, Aur Hum', among others.
He has also tried his hand at playback singing and the effect is unbelievable. Sample 'O Saathi Re' in 'Omkara'. What a melodious, smooth-flowing rendition it is!
He's truly a genius!
Cheers!
Roli :)
